While both spellings are pronounced the same, I chose the less common Daemon on purpose. Throughout Bloodstone Redemption I deliberately chose alternate names for many people. places, and things. I did that to stress that the earth Master winds up in is NOT our earth. Sure there are lots of similarities, but the geography is different. And since geography has a major influence on history, language, and religion they are all similar but different also. A good example is the name of the city and state that he lands in. They are New Eoferwic. Eoferwic being the old Anglo-Saxon name for the city that is now York. Also the people speak Anglish instead of English. (On Master’s original world they spoke Inglish. Which I imagine to be a cross between Anglo/Saxon English and Shakespeare’s English.)
Forkers – These closely resemble the classic devils. Horns, pointy tail, goat legs/feet, etc. (No wings.) They use modified tridents rather than pitchforks. Three long sword like blades on the business end rather than long points. Forkers are one of the classes that can teleport.
Retrievers – These are shorter but similar in appearance to Forkers. The horns are short and blunt. They can fly long distances on their stubby wings and other than the extra muscles for their wings are built similarly to humans. They have the unique ability of being able to find things. If a thing exists, they can find it. And they always find “the best” example of whatever they are sent for. They are not strong or sturdy, so while they can find things, they may not be able to bring it back. (Malodorous thinks they should have been named “finders.”)
Speed Daemons – As the name implies, they are incredibly fast. (Think Barry Allen from the Bronze Age Flash comics.) They are tall, at least 7 feet, with long thin arms, legs, and torso. Their heads resemble Anubis at his scariest. Though thin they are almost as strong as the Forkers and their speed enables then to move too fast to be seen.
Screamers – Small misshapen creatures with short skinny limbs and a barrel chest. They can reproduce many sounds and vary the pitch and volume at will. Delicate and weak they are denigrated in Hell. But deadly when used from a distance against humans. Their screams can shake apart cars, burst ear drums, and sometimes induce madness.
Shockers – Hell’s ground troops. Between four and five feet tall, armed with a short sword and shield. They have two special abilities. They carry a static charge (less than a taser but more than a wall socket) and they are one of the few classes who regenerate when wounded. But not their heads.
Large Flyers – They appear to be a cross between a dragon and a gargoyle. The strongest and largest of all daemons. They are virtually impervious to harm and can fly great distances. Their saliva is acidic and poisonous which allows them to attack from high above an enemy. Their back legs can propel them many times their height into the air which makes take-offs easy. The rear feet are four toed and splayed. The front feet are human like and can be used for walking or grabbing. Their tails are long and have a flat skewed rectangular tip than can be used to chop up even the hardest objects.
Fast Flyers – Able to fly at speeds that exceed mach 7, nothing gets you there faster. Smaller than a Large flyer they resemble a cross between a swallow and a hawk, but have no feathers. Their beaks are indestructible and can break apart just about anything.
Reporters – Another misnamed class of daemon. These tiny flying speedsters have a “phono-graphic memory.” (Yes. I did rip that off. Extra points for you if you know from where.) They can repeat any conversation, no matter how long, verbatim with the correct inflections.
Guardian Daemons – Malodorous is the only one that I know of. He implies that there are others, but whether or not they have his abilities, he doesn’t say.
